Abbott has identified a potential security vulnerability affecting the Libre app.
This problem could only be activated by someone in close proximity to a person’s device and cannot be activated remotely over the internet.
As of 9-Oct-2026, Abbott is not aware of any unauthorised access to a patient's app in relation to this vulnerability, and there have been no reports of adverse events.
In the unlikely event that this vulnerability were to be exploited, the apps could display incorrect sensor glucose readings, and alarms may not function as intended or may provide incorrect alerts, which may lead people with diabetes to make inappropriate treatment decisions, such as taking too much or too little insulin or delaying necessary treatment.

| Instructions for Customers/Users |
A software update to correct this problem has been released. Updated software version starts with 1.4.1
Customers are to:
- Check the current app version and immediately update the Libre app to the latest version starting with 1.4.1, as per the instructions in the customer letter.
- If the current app version starts with 1.4.1 no further actions are required.
Updating the app will not affect current sensor session or cause the customer to lose existing data.
Customers do not need to wait until the next sensor change to update the app.
Customers can continue using the current sensors as usual. No action needs to be taken with the sensor.
Abbott Australasia advises that if symptoms do not match the sensor reading, or you think the reading might be off, check the reading by conducting a fingerpick test using a blood glucose meter. |
